I was born in Enid, Oklahoma and moved to Edmond, Oklahoma to attend the University of Central Oklahoma and later graduate as an Art Major with a Minor in Mathematics. I am currently living and working in Oklahoma City.
From my earliest memories, art has been an outlet for me, an escape. I was in high school before I discovered oil painting and immediately fell in love. Although I enjoy a variety of creative processes, painting has my heart. The tactile experience of paint under brush has no comparison.
In 2021, a dear friend of mine offered me my first House Portrait commission. I have since painted over 100 House Portraits for local realtors as well as private collectors.I see personality and life in each subject and revel in the chance to showcase the character and love that makes these houses homes.
As my commission career has evolved so has the focus of my work. Many of my non commission works are deeply personal, often tackling subjects of mental health, trauma, societal expectations and processing what it is to be human. I utilize humor and irony in my pieces. Life is often so complicated and ridiculous, even in its most serious moments.
I don’t think of myself as a painter of realism, although my most recent body of work has veered this direction as I process through my thoughts on what it means to be an analogue creature in a digital world. I reflect back on being a child looking through photo albums with curiosity and a sense of connection. Photographs weren’t just an image, but an object, tangible, holding a spark of life. We are so consumed with documenting everything, then nothing has significance. I want to recapture the way looking through those albums made me feel.
Outside of this developing series, I would consider my work to be largely pop-surrealism. A combination of symbolism, familiar imagery and visuals straight from the imagination. Ongoing collections include “Saints of Childhood” and the ever growing adventures of my original characters Spaceboy and Spacecat.
Other creative endeavors include owning and operating Flood & Stroke. I did screen printing as well as accessories, apparel and graphic design. I ran this business for 12 years, but the years following motherhood forced me to change plans. I still do graphic design on the side and retain crocheting and sewing as hobbies.
